Sarcastic, funny, angry then smooth in a split of a second, Leila is an exceptional choir conductor at LAU. Seventy years old with a spirit of a strong young woman in her thirties, Leila shouts at the tenor, smiles to the sopranos, hushes the altos, and fidgets like all of us as she makes fun of our moves!
“Legs straight”, “Heads up in pride”, and “…From the abdomen, not the gorge!!” She would strike us with such essentials! She would lean over and sway her body while we sing. Her cheeks seem to enjoy liveliness as she smiles along every high note and her eye brows get closer with the sadness of the tenor!
Getting prepared to sing in the Christmas Carols Ceremony is an enjoyment with a true artist like Leila, whose attitude is funny, even when she raises her hand and points at us as she imitates the mistakes she heard we did! She is a storm in tremendous fury when she spots a sleepy posture or a reckless, tired lad. She is a melody, in the parts we sing Haydn so well. She is pure silk when she talks to me.
Kindness will aromatize the room in a while as the Christmas bells ring the hearts. Reheasal is in twenty minutes!
